Music is our soul food here at MISSY SKINS and an endless source of inspiration for our collections. We have so much love and admiration for the ladies fearlessly doing their thang in the music world, so we have introduced MUSIC MUSE, where we spotlight babes that are making waves in the music industry and share some of their music with you, with hope to inspire.
Native New Yorker Brittany Sky is a musical, style and cultural force to be reckoned with. She was thrust into the limelight when she appeared as the leading lady in Kendrick Lamar’s video for Poetic Justice. Since then, her rising repertoire has seen her tour with Cee-Lo, DJ alongside Soulection artists and supporting acts such as Future.
Bridging the gap seamlessly between sub-cultural and corporate platforms, her upbeat mixes and personal influence have earmarked her as a favourite with brands such as Nike, Adidas, Beats by Dre and W Hotels. She stopped by the MISSY SKINS office on her recent trip to Shanghai - we love how she rocks her MISSY wares with her streetwise balance of sass and sweet.

- Women’s Day is almost upon us and what better time to reflect upon those women that inspire us, those that we look up to as role models, and those that follow their dreams…Here are our HEROIC WOMEN.
"The biggest challenge is yourself. This is not my own issue, it's everyone’s issue."
Hailed as China’s ‘Annie Leibovitz’, Beijing native Chen Man leads our foray of heroic women as an established visual artist whose mediums include photography, painting, graphic design, cinematography and digital art. Having been featured in all the top fashion magazines and shot countless celebs both within China and internationally, her immediately-identifiable photography work employs modern post-production techniques and has a definitive eastern flair.
“Both men and women should feel free to be sensitive. Both men and women should feel free to be strong. It is time that we all perceive gender on a spectrum, instead of two sets of opposing ideals.”
Emma Watson became a household name playing Hermione in the Harry Potter series, and she’s since blossomed into an all-round heroine, excelling in her craft and in her activism work. She is the UN Women Goodwill Ambassador and helped to launch the campaign HeForShe. She’s also a certified yoga and meditation teacher.
“I was expelled at 15 for wearing bright pink moccasins and a bright pink mohair cardigan to school. The nuns told me to take it all off, but it looked so good. I couldn’t.”
British artist Helen Downie discovered painting at age 48 and without any formal training, rose to international fame within two years. Having battled cancer and detoxed herself of alcohol and drugs, she started painting and posting her portraits on her Instagram account, Unskilled Worker. She found a fan in Nick Knight and in particular Alessandro Michele, whom invited her to paint the Gucci Fall 2015 show as part of an exhibition, proving that new talents can emerge at any point in life.
“But you have to do what you dream of doing even while you're afraid.”
In an industry traditionally dominated by male figures, Arianna Huffington burst onto the media scene in 2005 with The Huffington Post, of which she was co-founder and editor-in-chief. The Huffington Post is now owned by AOL and she has since stepped down from her role to focus on her new venture, Thrive Global, focusing on health and wellness. She’s remained politically active, having run for California governorship in 2003 and has authored 15 books, as well as recognition as one of the most influential people in the world.
With love and respect xx
